What are some terms you should know if you want to patent an idea with no legal assistance?
This is not advisable. I have been a patent professional for 20 years, and the self-filed applications I have dealt with have not once met the requirements for a valid and commercially useful patent, often resulting in a loss of patent rights. The trouble is people only find this out years after they have filed the application.
It is a bit like trying to do microsurgery on yourself. It is something that some people might succeed in, but they are by far the minority. It really is something best left to a professional.
